Cultural Appropriation

I found the issue of cultural appropriation to be a little odd the first time I heard of it. Being an immigrant myself, with an entirely different culture from language to food to dress, I sought out to share my experiences and way of living with many Americans. Imitation is the ultimate form of flattery; however, it is very disrespectful when the imitation is regarded as fashionable and trendy while the original is looked down on and seen as inferior. When sharing cultures, the most important trait to have is respect. Respect can only come with understanding which is why the application presented seems useful. The app would explain an element of someone's culture to the user to help them make informed decisions on whether or not something is appropriate. Though appropriateness is all subjective to each user, certain things can be universally regarded as offensive, such as wearing a sacred or religious dress as a casual costume. Many of these things can be looked up on google, but having all the data easily accessible is a cool way to investigate many topics at once and learn the answers to questions one would have not even thought to ask.
