A Joke Gone Wrong

In the episode about Waldo, the cartoon character who took part in a political race, we can see the similarities that the United States has lived in the recent months. Trump can very well be represented by Waldo because both were totally under qualified for the position they were trying to get. They both also happened all of a sudden. No one even believed Trump was being serious. I surely didn't believe it. I believed he was just trying to gain media attention. I remember that the racist remarks he had made about Mexicans were being played everywhere. He constantly said he was going to "build a wall" and he would make Mexico pay for it, which is nonsense because he can't actually do that. Yet, that was one of the main reasons he actually got elected president. This just shows how many people here in the U.S still don't accept others who are different from them.

Just as Waldo did, Trump used some pretty childish tactics to gain votes. He was never professional throughout the election, he even encouraged violence in some of his speech rallies. He insulted so many people, including other candidates. Both Trump and Waldo used a lower level english which your average person can understand. That played a big part in both receiving votes as well because most people cannot understand political talk. Trump used the most basic and simple ways to express himself to get the people fired up and not really think about what's really important, which are his ideas to "make America great again".

Sadly, unlike Waldo, Trump did win and now we must wait and see what his real plans for America are.

  1. @Luis I agree with your reflection. I believe Trump is going to keep discriminating against anyone who looks different or thinks differently than he does especially if they are illegal immigrants. I also agree with you when you say that we'll have to wait and see his real plans. Trump, just like Waldo talk way too much. It is not going to be easy for him to get a law that targets a group of people passed because he must first go through the House of Representatives and the Senate. Unless those also think the same way he does.
