Waldo Trump

I feel "The Waldo Moment" can be compared to the 2016 United States Presidential election in so many ways. First off there were two main political candidates that actually had some political experience that could be seen as Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton then out of the blue came a fictional, blue, animated character with no experience to run for an election named Waldo A.K.A Mr. Donald Trump. The voice of Waldo is played by a man with little education and that blurts out things he thinks the people want to hear. His jokes are nasty and inappropriate for many people walking by the cartoon truck to see. He even had the audacity to pull out his blue penis to make fun of the male candidate. Yet, somehow he becomes a major contender in the election. I personally feel the people just wanted change and they felt since Waldo spoke what's on his mind that he could be trusted with the power. The people knew little of him and did not question his background and experience which is what frustrates me with politics and democracy. Democracy is supposed to be for the people, but somehow it really only represents what a small percentage of the population wants and needs. Statistical analysts broke down the 2016 Presidential Election into data and percentages based upon race, income, education, etc. It is well known that any race in America other than white represents the minority that is why when it showed that most of Donald Trump's votes came from white uneducated Americans I was not surprised. On a side note, I really dislike how bitter the voice of Waldo became after the female candidate said she didn't want to speak to him anymore. I just simply hate when a show tries to make the woman pictured out to be the bad guy and displayed as using sex for power. But, then again Donald Trump is used to attacking women that don't agree with him because he doesn't see women on his level. Waldo Trump, as I will call him, had no clear plans for fixing the government yet, the people felt because he was loud and attacked other candidates that the was the one for the job. Eventually, 30 years after that election the government became sort of a dictatorship and Waldo had taken over. I really hope this does not parallel with the United States because Mr. Trump is not fit to be president or in any political office just as his fellow doppelganger Waldo.

  1. @Keona I totally agree with you. I also hope that the episode of Waldo doesn't parallel with our world. In order to ensure that that does not happen we as people should fight back. We should fight back with kindness instead of racism against minorities or other groups of people who are not like us.

  2. Keona, very good point about the way women are often portrayed. I wonder if there are any connections between Gwen in the episode, and Hilary during the election. How did the fact that each of them is a woman affect how they were treated or perceived?
