"White Bear" reflection
In this episode of Black Mirror titled "White Bear", it could easily represent our country's correctional system. In the episode there was this woman named Victoria who was suppose to be getting punished for kidnapping a little girl and recording her fiancé killing the little girl. The woman does not know who she is or what she is being punished for. The reason being is that she lives out her punishment everyday, but learns nothing due to the fact that they erase her mind at the end of every day. The reason they erase her mind everyday is so they can continue to punish her and make money off of her to people who want to come and watch her get punished for her wrong doings. She never learns what she has done wrong or gets the chance to correct her actions due to the fact of them punishing her every day and erasing her mind. In a sense she has it easy compared to people in our jail system as she does not remember a thing of what she has done because they erase her mind. Whereas criminals in our jail systems have to live every day out remembering exactly what they did to get them in there. Neither Victoria or the people in our jails get the chance to show that they have changed. People in our jail systems never get the correct reform or correctional help. Instead they are just placed in jail and remain there until their time is up. Some people do deserve what they are sentenced for. Honestly our country could use the jail system to send people away to get help and get away from the real world and then they can go back to their normal life once they have been reformed and corrected. Our country's correctional system is a fraud and does not give people the correct chance to prove that they have learned their lesson.
