Independence Day

To be in honest, I am not entirely sure how I feel about this Waldo character, the film as a whole, or the election in general. The entire show made me feel so angry and sad, frustrated with the stupidity of humans from beginning to end. How could people be so incompetent that they follow a talking, blue bear? How can they not see through the facade of that which is the entirety of Waldo's (and others') campaigns? The reality is that they are all myths and illusions set in place to elect an officer into a position of power for the purpose of what... money. They will never say it. No one will ever truly admit it. Even the most kindhearted, good-intentioned politician would not complain about the very nice pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. But what bewilders my soul more than simply the corruption of people in power, are the people that vote for them. Yes, Waldo was an idiotic idea with no message. And sure, people want to compare him to Trump and find some direct parallelism. But the moral the story, beyond the politics, are the people. The very fact that all of these dumbfounded humans so quickly and willing voted for a blue bear is absurd. In all honesty, I would not directly equate our newfound President, Donald Trump, with the annoying blue bear, Waldo. My frustration goes beyond the showmanship or the candidates to the people who vote ignorantly. To clarify, the people who voted for Trump are NOT of the same mentality as those who voted for Waldo. It was stated in class, that if only 18-25 year olds had voted, Hilary would have won; but there is no way in life I would ever want to live in a world dictated by the opinions and thoughts of a bunch of college students. Thank goodness that is not a reality. Humans this day, especially the younger ones, seem to be in need a deeper thinking brain. One that critically and logically thinks through the situations at hand. Our country is in shambles, but our people do not have to be.
