In our world , it's easy to just complain instead of trying to make a change. Every few years under our  political system there is a chance for change given directly to people who don't know how to use it.  In the episode of Black Mirror featuring the character Waldo, people are fed up with the current status quo . It comes to my attention that until people find some sort of comfort in Waldo they don't say much. It can be assumed that they would still vote for the corrupted leaders who had always been in power.

The same can be said about America. Visuslly speaking, the last Congress was obstinent towards President Obama. From the very beginning, our congress promised that they would not pass anything that President Obama endorsed simply because it was from him. Some people say this is racism, some point the blame at partisanship. Nobody on either side of the party lines says this is okay, yet it still happened.  For a record breaking amount of time, Merrick Garland has been waiting to replace the late Justice Scalia. The congress has repeatedly said that they will not give Garland their approval because he is an Obama appointment. Many people fail to realize how important this is. A Supreme Court appointment is until death. This would mean that one of President Obamas people would have served in government until the day he dies. This is important when challenges to laws or rulings like Roe v Wade are made. I can only wonder what the Congress will do when President Elect Trump will pick someone. Will he honor his predecessors choice, or will Merrill Garland go home without his job?

That's the most important part of corruption. It's the little guy. The congress was constitutionally made to be stronger than the President and arguably the most powerful branch of government. Instead of worrying so much about who is the President , we should be worried about the senate and house elections. And if we don't, we end up voting for a Waldo because we become sick of the government as a whole instead of examining the bits that really cause our strife.

  1. Good points. From what I can tell, President Elect Trump is planning on nominating someone else to the SCOTUS.
