Waldo, Bulworth, Trump.

The main difference between Waldo and Trump is drive for change. Waldo began as a simple cartoon character, and ended as a cartoon character. The only reason he got into the political arena was for publicity, and so the creators behind him could make money. Waldo did however symbolize a needed change for the people. It can be said that the reason Waldo did not win the election is because he had no true plan for the wellness of the country. All he did was mock the routine, standard way of politicians. Waldo did not have a plan, but struck a chord in the hearts of a majority of the people. Trump, as bluntly and forcefully as he could, exposed what he, and a majority of Americans, believed to be corrupt and had a plan that won the majority of votes in America because of it.

The trend or theme in The Waldo Moment, the award winning film Bulworth, and Donald Trump’s movement is authenticity. In this thrillingly dangerous political comedy, Jay Bulworth is a democratic senator in California running a re-election campaign. Compromised financially and mentally, Bulworth orders the assassination of himself. Facing immenint death, Bulworth speaks his mind at public events, on honest but controversial observations exposing his corrupt colleagues and other businesses involved in scandal. By the end of the film, he wins the majority of votes because of his new tactics and thus the election. Donald Trump is the republican Bulworth.

Donald Trump can be easily compared to the characters Waldo, and Jay Bulworth. Because of Trump’s outlandish demeanor he, like Waldo and Jay Bulworth, makes himself a relatable American, and not a politician solely above the people. Each character as a result knew exactly what the people wanted. With that being said, it is important to note that the ending scenes in these two depictions of politics today, in context to the result of Trump’s victory, give no indication of what Trump will do. There is no way to know exactly what the result of any one event will be until it happens. As a country, and as Americans, it is imperative that the minority against him, and those rejoicing with him, have an open mind to our new president, in hopes of what he will do for the overall wellness of our country.

  1. I disagree that Trump showed any real goals in this election. His campaign strategies seemed to be exposing the corruption in other people rather than exposing the corruption in the world. He also didn't display a way to fix those problems. He instead attacked and belittled his fellow candidates while avoiding topics of change all together. Although I do agree that we have no knowledge of the events to happen, based off his words and actions it seems America in for a rude awakening.

  2. While I agree that it is difficult, if not impossible to know exactly what Trump is going to do in office, we have definitely been given some indicators.
