"White Bear" is an episode of Black Mirror that had to do with a woman reliving the same day over and over again as part of "justice" that a group of people decided was ok because of what she had done. The woman had done nothing to stop her boyfriend from killing a little girl and instead, she recorded it. Because of this, the people decided she should pay in a similar manner. The people in charge of White Bear had every detail taken care of so that they could control her every move, and even if the woman thought of something else, there were workers there to stop her.
While all this occurred, there were people with their cellphones out that would just watch as this woman begged for help. The whole thing was pretty sick, especially if you consider the fact that they would erase her memory at the end of the day. The people in charge of White Bear actually enjoyed torturing this woman who was being treated inhumanely.
A comparison can be seen with prisons. There are many inmates in the prisons that can be there for a crime such as murder and yet just because they are sent to prison it does not mean that they will change or that they will actually suffer a just punishment for what they did. Sometimes the punishments are either too little or too big for the crime. I don’t think we will ever be able to find a punishment that is justly fit for the crime that has been committed.
